Saquarema is known as the Maracanã of Brazilian surfing, and Itaúna beach is its main stage and a WSL Championship Tour venue. A powerful, open beach break below the church on the hill, it picks up south and southeast swells and can produce heavy, hollow peaks well overhead. It suits intermediate to advanced surfers.
